June 19, 2007 HDR Thriller (magpie)

Storm Front, originally uploaded by rovingmagpie. Click on pic, see it in Flickr.

Kim's recent PoeARTica post and comment inspired the search word for today. Magpie? Turns out it's the photographer(!), but it has certainly led to a great shot. Here it is IN LARGE.

I love weather when you can see it in action. For me, it puts things in perspective in terms of scale. Looking at weather like this gives me the sense of earth as a planet (and our living space). As large as it is, it is finite within a certain scale. The earth is 8,000 miles in diameter and the atmospere is just 60 miles thick. All of the clouds that we see occur within the first 15 miles. That's equivalent to a thin coat of paint on a cue ball. We need to take care that coat of air, because their is less of it that we think.

hi HD
fancy that!!! a photographer called Magpie....this is a spectacular photo...literally took my breathe away when I viewed it large....and it's rather frightening to think that we have such a thin veneer surrounding us....

hey hd,
Alright, I'm moving out to the desert . Great photo.

I think people sometimes forget how fragile this great blue marble really is.

amazing isn't it how much vaster the sky looks in relation to the land... and that land mass is anything but small!!!!!
