Oy. This is the type of twilight zone result that drives some people to rail against HDR processing. And judging from his Flickr caption ("My high dynamic range skills need some serious work."), the photographer knows it.
UPDATE...I must apologize to K e v i n for posting the pic above, because he has let me know of its experimental nature and he has updated it. Here it is below....
